












“Over the past few years, Japanese bamboo artists have reached beyond the established boundaries of their craft” says the Japan Society in New York. “New Bamboo: Contemporary Japanese Masters is the world’s first exhibition devoted exclusively to Japanese bamboo as a sculptural medium, featuring 23 innovators, old and young, who explore to the full the tension between traditional skill and new expressive opportunities”.

No. He's just too closed minded to use a diverse vocabulary.
Hate to encourage stupid conversations instead of admiring the sculptures, but perhaps the person in question just has higher expectations and respect for art and recognizes that if a word is said to often and too friviously it loses it's meaning. The sculptures are very beautiful and they even take on almost metalic forms- it's hard to believe with some of them that they're made of bamboo.
