A guy decides to bring his new blonde girlfriend to a football game. After the game is over, he asks her if she liked the game.

She replies: "Oh it was great, I loved watching those men in tight clothes, but there is one thing I don't understand."

Gaylord the Camel (Campbell University)

The fact that Campbell University chose the fighting camel as its mascot is forgivable. After all, Campbell Camels have a nice ring to it. But then to name him Gaylord? Inexcusable. No opposing team is afraid of a camel named Gaylord, especially one who dances like this.

Super Frog the Horned Frog (Texas Christian University)

TCU has been using the horned toad as a mascot since 1897. The horned toad might sound like a strange choice of a mascot, but it's the state reptile of Texas, and Native Americans in the Southwest believed this five inch long frog had ancient powers. The mascot's name used to be Addy the All-American Frog, but became Super Frog in 1979.

Geoducks (Evergreen State)

Pronounced “gooey duck”, the geoduck isn't a waterfowl, as you might suspect, but a mollusk. It's native to the Pacific Northwest, which explains why the college chose it as a mascot. It looks like a penis-shaped saltwater clam, and the best part is the Evergreen State Geoduck Fight Song:

Boll Weevils (University of Arkansas)

At six millimeters long, not many schools boast a mascot smaller than that of the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Still, despite its diminutive size, the boll weevil is a formidable opponent — after all, it is the most destructive cotton pest in the United States. With that in mind, it is curious why men's athletics at Monticello are represented by the Boll Weevils whereas the women are known as the “Cotton Blossoms.”

The Fighting Okra (Delta State University)

Ah, another vegetable mascot, and one that's appropriate for a Mississippi school! The vegetable that looks like mucous is their mascot. The irony of all of this is that the students wanted something green (their uniforms are green) and southern, and all they could think of was okra!

Brutus the Buckeye (Ohio State)

Brutus Buckeye is the athletics mascot of The Ohio State University. Brutus is a student dressed in Buckeye colors with a headpiece resembling an Ohio Buckeye nut. Brutus has appeared since 1965, with periodic updates to design and wardrobe. As a member of the cheerleading team Brutus Buckeye travels to many athletic and non-athletic events around The Ohio State University and makes appearances around Columbus.

Billiken (St. Louis University)

The Saint Louis Billiken is ... well, what the heck is it? He looks like a vampire or an alien or both. This made up mascot was picked because its likeness resembled that of one of the coaches. Billiken is a representation of good luck.

Scrotie (Rhode Island School)

Without a doubt, one of the strangest college sports mascots has to be Scrotie, the unofficial mascot of the Rhode Island School of Design. The costume is unique and at the same time horrific, looking exactly like a giant penis wearing a red cape with the scrotum hanging beneath.

The school's basketball team is known as the Balls, and their slogan is, "When the heat is on, the Balls stick together." The hockey team is called the Nads, and their cheer is "Go Nads!" Scrotie was created to cheer on the Nads in 2001. Despite his status as an unofficial mascot, he's present at all the games and widely accepted by the student body.

Sammy the Banana Slug (University of California-Santa Cruz)

The University of California-Santa Cruz is home to Sammy the Banana Slug. A banana slug is a slimy yellow mollusk found near the northern California coastal community of Santa Cruz. They adopted the slug as a mascot as a commentary on the overemphasis of athletics at many universities. Attempts to change to mascot to something else have all failed.

How it all started

The Mondo Spider Project was founded by five Vancouverites: Charlie Brinson, Dillard Brinson, Alex Mossman, Leigh Christie and Jonathan Tippett.
Junkyard Wars

Inspired by the famous TV shows Scrapheap Challenge and Junkyard Wars USA, Alex Mossman, Brian Wells and several other brilliant local Vancouver Engineers started a competition known as The Vancouver Junkyard Wars (VJYW). In 2005, the competition was to be a "walking machine" race. Jonathan, Leigh and Charlie had all participated in the VJYW in the past, and in 2005 they formed a team together along with Alex. Leigh Christie brought a crew of participants together. The final team roster included: Jimmy Koo, Charlie Brinson, Alex Mossman, Jonathan Tippett, Bradley Buss, Matt Chudleigh, Josh Vines, Emerson Gallagher, Ryan Johnston, and Vince Augustine.

This combined team took an overly ambitious approach to the design challenge. While a machine with a very small step would have been the smart thing to do, this team of lunatics saw it as an opportunity to make a mechanical beast! A more impressive and aesthetically pleasing leg mechanism would have to be found.

Alex found a website called www.mechanicalspider.com. On this site he found a 6-bar linkage mechanism that had been patented by Joe Klann. The linkage mechanism produced a relatively flat foot path and a tall step height. It appeared to be exactly what they were looking for.

The competition took place over the course of a weekend. Within 48 hours, the team had built a walking machine with 8 of the bizarre six-bar linkage legs made of wood. At the final minute, some key changes were made to the machine. And with a grand total of 10 seconds of test time, the race began... And the machine walked!

Unfortunately after 20 steps, the spider began to hobble, and then crawl, and then die. After the competition, the carcass of the spider was thrown in a recycling bin.
Vancouver Junkyard Wars Team Spider

The picture is from the prototype walking machine. Due to obvious time constraints, little attention was paid to aesthetics. The machine was built entirely from scrap parts found at local junkyards, and while being a proof of concept, was consequently not the most reliable vehicle. Many of the original Junk Yard Wars team went on to work on what was soon to be named the Mondo Spider project.

A few weeks later, after nearly recovering from the blitzkrieg-like JYW competition, Charlie, Leigh, Jonathan and Alex were haunted by memories of their beloved but ultimately dead junk spider.

"This is what JYW does to you.. you wake up in the middle of the night thinking of different ways to make a better walking machine!" - Alex

"Yeah... I've been going through this stuff in my dreams for a couple weeks too. I'm really itching to build another walking machine!" - Leigh

And then Dillard Brinson asked the team to build another walking machine ...

Arthur Mole and John Thomas, at a time when photography was taking its first steps, were able to, through their perseverance and technical ability, photograph large groups that created symbolic representations of objects and people. Considering 21st century’s capabilities, such task, which requires as many as 30 000 people to pose at a time, is both complex and filled with details, forcing us to keep their magnificent achievements in perspective.

Arthur and Thomas, the so called "live photographers", were able to capture these fantastic images in the period of 1915-1920, in the middle of the world war one. Their goal was to recover the image of an American identity at the time in which the United States entered this conflict in 1917.

The great dimension of this Project still assumes greater proportions by the philanthropist characteristic of its authors, that instead of prospering with the sale of the images produced, donated all their profit to the families of the soldiers who returned from the conflict and intended to redo their lives.

Bernard Katz has worked in glass since 1986. He is a graduate of Temple University's Tyler School of Art, where he majored in Fine Arts and specialized in Glass Blowing and Glass Sculpture. He also studied abroad at the West Surrey College of Art and Design in Farnham, England. Bernard then apprenticed for several years with well known glass artists such as Leon Applebaum, David Garcia and Samuel Bloom before going off on his own.

His etched designs are all original and usually involve botanical subjects, creating a naturalistic yet contemporary feel. These designs lend themselves to display in all settings, from artistic home decor to corporate office enhancements.

Bernard designs and executes each piece himself, combining modern equipment and ancient techniques. His shapes are created by hand blowing the molten glass into his 3 dimensional shapes which then become a canvas of glass unto which the final imagery will be etched.

At this moment it’s still in production but soon it would be on sale in a very limited edition, hand signed and numbered. The Jumping Brain have 6 parts in total, 2 halves, 1 hipofisis and 3 pices to fit the halves. You can mix the different colors toghether!! It should be available in a few months in signed and numbered, limited-edition releases of 120 figures per color for roughly 30-40 euros ($45 - $65) each.

Global warming has been a threat for the world for this century. Most of the problems come from the high value of CO2 gasses, which produced by thousand of cars in big city, before added by the smokestacks from many industries. The balancing that made by the world naturally, would not be enough to solve the global warming. Rapid growth of human made the warming growth faster than ever.

Learning from the nature, there is a way that we could prevent this world from warming. Plants, especially a photosyntetic ones. Everybody knows that plants absorb the CO2 gasses and produce O2 gasses, as a result of photosyntetic process. So the best way to live comfortly is we have to have plants as much as possible. But in this time, less people want to do that. Most of the reason is they do not have much time. In while they have to work, and in the other time they want to vacant and enjoying life.

Bicycle is a unique transportation. It doesn`t have produce any dangerous emission. Beside that, it is enjoyable to ride it. So my idea is combining the plant inside the bicycle. If it is so hard to planting and growing a plant, than it is more easier to have plant in your bicycle and ride it along wherever you like. For the CO2 gasses, let the plants inside your bike work for you. You need more O2 gasses, let the plants give it around you. With this kind of bike, hopefully, we can decrease the value of CO2 gasses, which impact on the global cooling phenomena.

Throughout my formative days in school I eventually decided that almost everyone is pretty willy nilly in the wood shop. Maybe my generation has phobia of power tools to some extent or a larger ratio of us are mega sensitive to saw dust. It could have been a geographical concern, but I didn't think that the case either being that I was in rural Illinois. The tightest thing I had even seen made out of wood was maybe a big tree, or a really fancy birdhouse, or the structure of a swanky home being built. There wasn't anything interesting and wooden in my life.

Then back in 2006, I go to this Mike Rea guys opening at the Butcher Shop/ Dogmatic Gallery in Chicago. The space (a very large one) was jam packed with these, super elaborate, grandiose, all wooden sculptures. I had never been immediately engaged by work like that before upon entering a gallery, it was more like walking in to a theme park than an art show.

Since then he has continued to artistically push it to the limit and top himself over and over again. I even saw him eat a bacon cheddar burger pretzel dog once, that's ambition.
